MCS, in collaboration with the Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, has announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This agreement aims to enhance digital capabilities and build qualified human resources in cybersecurity within the petroleum sector. This move highlights the increasing focus on protecting the digital infrastructure of Egypt's strategic sectors.
The MoU was signed by Engineer Wael Lotfy, Undersecretary for Projects at the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, and Engineer Tarek Shabaka, Chairman of MCS. This partnership reflects a shared vision between both parties to develop a secure and sustainable digital environment that supports business continuity in one of the most vital sectors of the Egyptian economy.
The MoU specifically focuses on implementing specialized cybersecurity training programs. These programs are designed to improve the efficiency of petroleum sector employees and prepare them to handle increasing cyber threats. This will help strengthen the protection of digital systems and technological infrastructure, in addition to supporting operational efficiency and ensuring the continuity of essential services related to the energy sector.
Commenting on the agreement, Tarek Shabaka stated that this step is an extension of the company's commitment to supporting national efforts in building an integrated digital economy. This is achieved by transferring global expertise and providing advanced cybersecurity solutions, which enhances the readiness of national institutions to keep pace with rapid technological transformations.
He added that developing human capabilities in protecting data and digital systems is a fundamental element in facing the growing challenges associated with cybersecurity, especially in vital sectors that increasingly rely on digital transformation and smart technologies.
The MoU was signed on the sidelines of the 9th Egypt International Energy Conference and Exhibition (EGYPS 2026), held under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. This event is one of the most prominent regional and international platforms for energy dialogue in North Africa and the Mediterranean, and a strategic hub for discussing the future of energy, investment, and technology in the region.
This collaboration underscores a growing trend towards strengthening cybersecurity in the energy sector. With the rapid shift towards digitization and industrial systems adopting advanced technologies, it is crucial to build digital protection systems capable of countering cyber threats and ensuring the sustainability of operational processes.
