With the rapid changes happening in the entrepreneurship ecosystem across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, there's a growing need for specialized media platforms. These platforms must be able to keep up with this growth, offering precise analytical language and professional narratives that truly reflect the market's reality.
That's why WeCan City Software launched StartupHub.Today. It's designed to be a dedicated editorial space for documenting startup stories, told directly by their founders.
In this interview, Engineer Bilal Younis, Chairman of WeCan City, the company behind StartupHub.Today, talks about why the platform was launched, its editorial vision, and its future plans to support the region's entrepreneurship ecosystem.
What was the main reason for launching StartupHub.Today specifically at this time?
We're seeing a real maturing of the startup environment in the region, but media coverage hasn't quite kept pace. There's a huge focus on funding news, while the more important stories are about building sustainable business models, tackling operational challenges, and strategic shifts. So, we spotted a clear gap and decided to fill it with professional editorial content that shows the full picture.
How does StartupHub.Today stand out from other media platforms that cover startups?
The core difference lies in our editorial philosophy. We don't just publish press releases or focus only on big headlines. Instead, we work to analyze the context, understand the business model, and highlight challenges just as much as achievements. In other words, we're looking for real value amidst all the media noise.
What role can the platform play in supporting entrepreneurs?
Investors and entrepreneurs need accurate information and objective analysis, not just announced figures. When we present a startup's story, we try to break down its elements: the market, revenue model, expansion strategy, and competitive advantage. This kind of content gives investors a deeper understanding and a better chance to make informed decisions.
You mentioned a special interest in sustainability and Sustainable Development Goals. How does that reflect in your coverage?
We believe that the companies that last are those that build long-term value. That's why we focus on companies that offer solutions with a sustainable social, environmental, or economic impact. Sustainability isn't just a slogan; it's a strategic element in building any successful entity.
What are your future plans for expanding the platform's reach?
In the near future, we're looking into building a regional network of specialized correspondents and editors. We also plan to develop data analysis tools that will help us track market trends more accurately. Additionally, we aim to form partnerships with organizations that support the entrepreneurship ecosystem to enhance integrated coverage.
What message do you have for entrepreneurs in the region?
My message to entrepreneurs is to focus on building real value and sustainable growth before chasing headlines or high valuations. Today's market is more mature, and it evaluates companies based on their operational efficiency, clarity of their model, adaptability, and transparency in presenting challenges, along with discipline in execution. These are what build long-term trust, not just a perfect image.
