Eng. Mohamed Ibrahim, the Executive Vice President and official spokesperson for the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA), revealed that the authority receives over 25,000 complaints monthly from telecom service users. These complaints come through the free hotline 155, as well as the official website, mobile app, and social media platforms. He highlighted that the complaint resolution rate exceeds 97%, which truly shows how effective their system is at protecting user rights and improving service quality. The telecom sector in Egypt has seen remarkable development in recent years, Ibrahim explained. This includes launching 5G services and upgrading the fixed internet infrastructure by replacing copper networks with fiber optics. These changes have significantly boosted internet speeds and improved service quality for users. He added that the number of fixed internet subscribers has now surpassed 12 million. This growth reflects the increasing reliance on digital services across various sectors, including education, government services, financial transactions, and entertainment. Ibrahim also pointed out that Egypt has successfully boosted local manufacturing in the telecom sector. Previously, the country relied almost entirely on importing network components. Now, the local market boasts factories producing parts for telecom networks, mobile towers, and fiber optic cables. Plus, several international companies are expanding their mobile phone manufacturing operations within Egypt. He emphasized that the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology's strategy aims to transform Egypt into a regional hub for manufacturing and exporting telecom products. This strategy leverages the large local market, the availability of skilled human resources, and trade agreements that give Egyptian products a competitive edge. Ibrahim expects locally manufactured mobile phones to start being exported to foreign markets before the end of the year. Furthermore, Ibrahim clarified that the state is moving forward with its plan to expand telecom infrastructure by building around 3,000 new telecom towers annually. They are committed to maintaining this rate despite rising implementation costs. The goal is to accommodate the growing use of telecom services and improve coverage and service quality across all governorates. He reiterated that the NTRA provides a comprehensive system for receiving user complaints. This includes the free hotline (155), the official website, the official app, and the NTRA's official pages on social media platforms. This ensures easy access to services and quick follow-up on complaints until they are resolved.
