The global entrepreneurship scene is really expanding its focus beyond just making money. Now, there's a big push for projects that offer direct solutions to our growing climate and environmental challenges. We urgently need new models that blend innovation with sustainability, helping communities better cope with the effects of climate change. In this exciting context, C3, a UAE-based organization dedicated to supporting entrepreneurship and sustainability ecosystems, has announced the launch of its Nature Impact Accelerator program. They're partnering with HSBC Bank to make this happen. The goal is to support emerging initiatives that rely on nature-based solutions, helping them develop scalable projects across the Middle East, North Africa, Turkey (MENAT), and Southeast Asian countries. This program aims to fill a major gap in the global sustainability sector. Many environmental initiatives have brilliant, innovative solutions, but they often lack the specialized development tools they need. This includes technical expertise, access to investors, help with building partnerships, and improving their operational models to ensure their long-term impact.
Funding Gaps Highlight the Need for Sustainability Accelerators
The launch of this new accelerator comes at a time when global interest in nature-based solutions is soaring. These solutions are seen as a key way to tackle climate change, especially because they can help restore ecosystems, protect biodiversity, and boost communities' ability to adapt to climate shifts. Research estimates suggest that protecting and restoring ecosystems could contribute significantly to the global emissions reductions needed by 2030. However, the amount of investment currently going into this area is still much lower than what's actually required to meet climate targets, restore land, and protect natural resources. C3 believes that many community-led initiatives have ideas that could make a huge difference. But moving from a simple idea or a small-scale project to a scalable model requires a comprehensive support system. This system needs to combine training, mentorship, funding, and connections with key players in the sustainability sector.A Training Program to Discover Growable Environmental Initiatives
The Nature Impact Accelerator program features an intensive 10-week training track. During this time, 20 initiatives will be selected to participate in specialized workshops led by experts in environment, sustainability, and impact investment. The program focuses on boosting the operational and technical capabilities of the participating projects. It also aims to get them ready for funding and improve their ability to measure the environmental and social impact of their solutions. In the next phase, 10 to 12 initiatives will be chosen for one-on-one mentorship sessions with a group of experts and practitioners. The goal here is to help them refine their business models, develop expansion plans, and connect them with potential investment opportunities and partnerships. The program is built around three main tracks: restoring ecosystems in arid and desert regions, enhancing nature within cities to combat rising temperatures, and restoring wetlands and freshwater-related ecosystems.A Partnership Blending Funding and Expertise to Accelerate Climate Solutions
David Ramos, Head of Philanthropy at HSBC, shared that nature is a crucial element in tackling climate risks and strengthening communities' resilience. He pointed out that nature-based solutions need more funding and broader collaboration among various parties. He added that restoring ecosystems at the necessary scale and speed requires financial institutions, companies, and local communities to work together. He explained that the program aims to support promising initiatives and connect them with the expertise and resources needed to maximize their impact. Medea Nocentini, Co-founder of C3 and Senior Partner at Global Ventures, emphasized that nature-based solutions offer a fantastic opportunity to address several interconnected environmental challenges. She noted that the new accelerator provides a complete framework that brings together capacity building, specialized mentorship, strategic partnerships, and support for project implementation. She also added that the collaboration with HSBC highlights how important it is to pay more attention to innovators working in sustainability, helping their ideas transform into practical, scalable solutions.Building a Regional Network for Sustainability Projects
The program isn't just about training; C3 also aims to build a regional ecosystem that connects environmental solution providers with municipalities, NGOs, corporations, funding institutions, and technical experts. The goal is to create long-term partnerships that support the real-world implementation of these projects. The program will wrap up with the HSBC Nature Impact Showcase, held at the bank's headquarters. Participating initiatives will get the chance to present their projects to a group of investors, policymakers, supporting organizations, and leaders in the sustainability sector. This is all about boosting their chances for funding and expansion. C3 announced that applications are now open for the first cohort of the program for eligible initiatives in the Middle East, North Africa, Turkey, and Southeast Asia. Applications will be accepted until August 16, 2026. C3 is a certified B Corp organization that supports startups and entrepreneurs working in sustainable development. They do this through a network of over 7,000 experts and mentors and more than 1,000 investors.
