Data shows that the percentage of women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields remains low globally. According to UNESCO, less than 30% of researchers and only 30% of female students in higher education choose STEM fields.

While this number is gradually increasing to reach 35% currently, representation gaps are still particularly evident in computer science, engineering, and technology, where women constitute no more than 19% compared to 81% for men.

In this context, the British Council's "Women in STEM Scholarship Program" is launching for its third year, in partnership with 21 leading universities in the United Kingdom. It acts as a bridge to empower women and provide academic and professional opportunities in scientific, technological, engineering, and mathematical fields.

The program targets women from the Americas, South and East Asia, the Western Balkans, and Central Asia, as well as Brazil, Egypt, and Turkey. These are women who have an academic background in STEM, need financial support, and aspire to be role models for future generations of female researchers and scientists.

What Does the Program Offer?

Global academic opportunities, allowing you to study at leading British universities in STEM fields, with a strong focus on quality and scientific excellence.

Full financial support, covering tuition fees, accommodation, visa costs, health coverage, and travel expenses, along with special support for mothers.

Skills and English language empowerment, enhancing students' ability to succeed in a distinguished international educational environment.

Guidance and inspiration, engaging in a community of ambitious women in STEM to share experiences and inspire others.

Eligibility Criteria

The program targets women who hold a university degree in STEM fields, are capable of enrolling in a Master's program in the UK for the 2023-2024 academic year, have a proven financial need, a good level of English language proficiency, and demonstrate activity and passion in their specialized field.

Exclusions

The program does not include women who hold dual British nationality, are employed by or are close relatives of British government employees, are currently receiving financial support from any other source in the UK, or have previously studied there on a funded British scholarship.
