Egypt Unveils Major Digital Trade Portal with 60 Million Records to Boost Exports

Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Egypt's Prime Minister, witnessed the launch of the "Foreign Trade Information Portal" at an event organized by the Information and Decision Support Center (IDSC) in the New Administrative Capital. This launch was a collaborative effort with the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade, marking the portal as Egypt's largest integrated national platform for data and analytics related to foreign trade.

The event saw participation from Dr. Mohamed Farid Saleh, the Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, and Dr. Osama El-Gohary, Assistant Prime Minister and Head of the IDSC. Also present were leaders from various trade and investment bodies, representatives from the private sector, export councils, and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).

A Database with Over 60 Million Records

The Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade highlighted that this new platform offers a unified database with more than 60 million data records. These records come from both national and international sources, including the World Trade Organization, the World Bank, and the International Trade Centre. This wealth of information will empower exporters to analyze target markets and pinpoint promising export opportunities more efficiently.

He added that the portal covers approximately 6,650 customs items, categorized under the HS Code system. It provides detailed data on export and import movements across various goods, sectors, and markets, helping Egyptian companies expand internationally with up-to-date information and analysis.

Part of Egypt's Digital Transformation

The Minister explained that launching this portal is a key part of the Ministry's digital transformation plan and its efforts to improve the business environment. It's all about creating a comprehensive digital ecosystem to serve investors and exporters, which includes the Ministry's unified website and all current and future digital platforms and services.

He also pointed out that making accurate and easily accessible data available is fundamental to boosting the competitiveness of Egyptian exports and opening up new markets for national products. This initiative strongly supports the government's goals of increasing exports and achieving sustainable economic growth.

Tracking Global Demand and Import Gaps

Dr. Osama El-Gohary, for his part, clarified that the portal serves as the primary national reference for commercial and industrial data and analysis. It brings together local and international databases into a single window, giving manufacturers, investors, and exporters instant access to global market information.

He further explained that the platform provides updated monthly data on Egyptian export and import movements. It also includes tools to track global demand trends, identify import gaps, spot surges in international markets, and understand non-tariff barriers. This comprehensive insight helps the business community direct investments towards sectors best positioned to deepen manufacturing and increase access to foreign markets.

He also mentioned that the next phase aims to integrate with databases from the Ministry of Industry, the General Authority for Industrial Development, and the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade. This integration will offer even deeper insights into industrial and investment incentives and support the preparation of detailed studies on markets and competitors.
