Egyptian entrepreneur Karim El-Sewedy, through his Silicon Valley company Retool, has led the launch of a new product called “AI Agents.” This product aims to take a big step forward and add real value in the field of artificial intelligence. It allows developers to automate how they create value on a large scale, closing a huge $500 billion gap between investments in AI and the actual value businesses get from it.
This launch is the biggest since Retool was founded. El-Sewedy led a team for six months to design a completely new way the company operates, rebuilding its systems and how it's organized to speed up product development and make sure it actually works for businesses. El-Sewedy stated, “AI Agents is a platform that empowers companies to build, manage, and monitor AI agents built right into how businesses get work done, and can actually do real work.”
The product connects directly with models from companies like OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google. It works as a connected system of AI agents within what El-Sewedy described as an “AI Agents factory,” where companies can build all their agents in one place. He explained that most organizations today rely on chatbots like ChatGPT, but they're looking for a way to get real, tangible value for their business, which is exactly what this new product aims to do.
El-Sewedy highlighted how important it is to make AI a fundamental part of daily operations, not just a trial tool. He stressed the need to rethink and redesign companies' core business processes, step by step. El-Sewedy also predicted that the rapid development in AI would lead to rethinking how AI can truly create value, pushing organizations to find the right balance between moving fast and doing things well.
Retool started as a low-code platform for quickly building internal tools. The company grew to a market value of around $3.2 billion in less than five years, and its products are now used by over 10,000 companies worldwide, including leading Egyptian companies.
Karim El-Sewedy has lots of experience in operations and product management, having previously worked at major consulting firms like McKinsey & Company. He has also helped develop startups and has an educational background in economics and engineering from top international universities. By leading the launch of “AI Agents,” El-Sewedy continues to cement his reputation as a key Egyptian leader in global artificial intelligence.
