In a move that shows growing interest in digital financial solutions within emerging markets, Hamilton Labs has attracted a new investment from AXIAN Investments, the investment arm of Axian Group. The value of the investment wasn't disclosed, but it's set to support Hamilton Labs' plans to expand the reach of its stablecoin, USDh.
Dollar-Denominated Savings Tools
This investment will help the company offer dollar-denominated savings tools through a blockchain-based infrastructure. This opens up opportunities for individuals and businesses—especially in Africa—to access more stable and efficient financial alternatives.
This marks AXIAN's second investment in stablecoin infrastructure, clearly showing that investment firms are increasingly convinced about how important this sector is. They see it as a key driver for boosting financial inclusion and improving traditional financial systems.
FinTech Platforms
With this new funding, Hamilton Labs aims to speed up its integration with FinTech platforms. This will allow them to offer dollar savings solutions to a wider range of users, especially in markets where access to hard currencies and safe investment tools is limited.
Mohamed El-Kastawi, Co-founder and CEO of Hamilton Labs, mentioned that getting access to the dollar is still a challenge for millions of people in Africa. He stressed that programmable stablecoins like USDh could be a game-changer in expanding access to global financial infrastructure, helping users protect and grow their savings.
USDh is pegged to the US dollar at a 1:1 ratio and can be fully redeemed. This lets users benefit from sovereign yield opportunities, which historically were only available to large investment institutions, within the global sovereign debt market that's worth over $100 trillion.
Hassan Mohieddin, CEO of Financial Services at AXIAN, confirmed that this investment fits into the group's strategy to support innovation in FinTech. He noted that digital currencies are a crucial tool for empowering individuals and boosting financial inclusion both within and outside Africa.
It's worth noting that AXIAN Investments has supported 33 startups so far and participated in 38 investment funds. This highlights its growing role in boosting the entrepreneurial environment and supporting financial innovation across the African continent.
