Egypt's Industry Minister Invites US Firms to Expand, Touts AI for Future Growth

Egypt is really keen on growing its industrial partnership with the United States. They want to attract new investments and bring in modern technology. This is all part of a bigger plan to make Egypt's industrial sector more competitive and boost exports to a whopping $100 billion by 2030. A big part of this plan is putting Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications right at the forefront of developing Egypt's national industry. Engineer Khaled Hashem, Egypt's Minister of Industry, recently met with Stephen Haines, the US Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Industry and Analysis, and his team. They talked about how to strengthen industrial ties between the two countries and boost joint cooperation. Representatives from the US Embassy in Cairo, Dr. Ahmed Maghawry (Assistant Minister for International Cooperation), and other ministry leaders were also there. The Minister emphasized that the relationship between Egypt and the US is a strong foundation to build upon in the coming phase. He pointed out that the government aims to turn these good relations into real industrial and investment projects. They're also working hard to attract more American companies to the Egyptian market and smooth out any challenges investors might face.

An Industrial Strategy Focused on Exports and Local Manufacturing

Mr. Hashem explained that the Ministry is working with an updated industrial strategy. Its main goal is to increase the value of Egyptian industrial exports to $100 billion by 2030. They plan to do this by focusing on seven priority industrial sectors, along with enabling, strategic, and feeder industries. This will help deepen local manufacturing and integrate Egypt more fully into global supply chains. He added that the strategy also includes expanding the use of circular economy principles and recycling. This is to make sure resources are used more efficiently and to boost industrial sustainability. He stressed that having more American companies in these target sectors is a key way to achieve these goals.

AI at the Top of Industrial Development Priorities

The Minister of Industry noted that incorporating modern technologies, especially Artificial Intelligence, has become a top priority for the Ministry. This is because the industrial sector worldwide is changing so rapidly. He explained that the development plan includes setting up data centers and providing the necessary infrastructure to implement these technologies. This will ultimately boost production efficiency and improve the competitiveness of Egyptian factories. He confirmed that these initiatives open the door for American companies to bring their technological expertise to the Egyptian market. This will really help with industrial transformation and add more value to local production.

An Invitation for American Companies to Benefit from the Egyptian Market

Mr. Hashem highlighted that the Egyptian market is attracting more and more global investors. This is thanks to its advanced infrastructure, investment incentives, great geographical location, and free trade agreements with many countries and economic blocs. He encouraged the American side to urge its companies to expand their investments in Egypt and take advantage of these benefits. He also explained that the Ministry is focused on providing technical support to factories and boosting cooperation with international development partners to transfer technology, expertise, and industrial knowledge. They're also making it easier to set up industrial projects, especially small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and feeder industries, as these are crucial for deepening local manufacturing. He also mentioned the possibility of expanding cooperation between the Industry Modernization Center and American research centers. This would help connect scientific research with the needs of the industrial sector and support the development of local products and technologies.

Washington: US Companies Have Extensive Expertise in AI Solutions

On his part, Stephen Haines, the US Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Industry and Analysis, affirmed that the United States is eager to expand economic and industrial cooperation with Egypt. He noted that American companies already operating in the Egyptian market have successfully implemented excellent investment models, especially in the automotive, agricultural crops, and food industries. He added that the US government is looking forward to increasing the number of American companies working in Egypt. He suggested that industrial cooperation could start by focusing on three to five priority sectors. This approach would achieve quick results and boost partnership opportunities between both sides. Mr. Haines pointed out that American companies have advanced expertise in AI solutions and modern industrial technologies. This can really support Egypt's industrial development plans. He also praised the Ministry of Industry's efforts to remove obstacles for investors. He also extended an invitation to Egypt's Minister of Industry to visit the United States. The goal of this visit would be to present Egypt's industrial development strategy to the US government and American companies, and to highlight the investment and industrial cooperation opportunities available in both the Egyptian and American markets.
