Egypt's Digital Cubs Initiative Unveils Flexible Online Learning for Young Students

Training flexibility has become a key focus in digital competency development programs, especially with the growing need to make educational content available without the constraints of time or place. Following this trend, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology has launched its first self-learning program under the 'Digital Egypt Cubs' (DECI) initiative. The goal is to boost the technological skills of middle and high school students.

This program is entirely online, allowing Egyptian students both inside and outside Egypt to access training content anytime, anywhere. This significantly broadens the initiative's reach and gives participants greater flexibility to acquire digital skills that fit their academic schedules.

This step is a continuation of the 'Digital Egypt Cubs' initiative, which the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology launched in May 2022 as part of the 'Digital Egypt for Generations' programs. The initiative successfully trained over 168,000 students during the first half of this year, showcasing the expansion of the Ministry's programs aimed at preparing digital talent from early educational stages.

The self-learning program aims to support the nation's efforts to invest in human capital. It does this by equipping students with digital and technological skills that align with the demands of the digital economy, while also enhancing the readiness of new generations to explore future job opportunities in the communications and information technology sector. Ultimately, this supports the country's goals of building a knowledge-based, innovation-driven digital society.

To join the program, first to second-year middle and high school students in Egypt must have achieved scores between 70% and 89% in English, Mathematics, and Science. For Egyptian students residing abroad, the requirement is at least 70% in Mathematics, Science, and English during the previous academic year.

Each training level lasts five months, giving students the flexibility to complete the content at their own pace. Specific criteria are in place for continuing in the program, ensuring commitment and effective learning from the training material.

The program also includes three live sessions during each training period. These sessions allow participants to connect with trainers and experts, ask questions, and discuss topics related to the training content.

The self-learning program is one of three training tracks offered by the 'Digital Egypt Cubs' initiative. The others are the main program, which runs for six months during the academic year, and the summer program, which lasts two to three months during the summer break. Each program has different implementation methods and admission procedures.

The program is structured into five training levels. The first level introduces the fundamentals of computer science and information technology. The second level introduces five technical pathways to help students identify their interests before moving on to specialization from the third level in one of the following areas: Digital Arts, Software Development, Networks and Information Security, and Artificial Intelligence and Robotics.

The program isn't just about technical training; it also focuses on developing personal and leadership skills such as communication, time management, teamwork, leadership, entrepreneurship, and sustainable development. Students who successfully complete the program receive accredited certificates issued by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.
