Egypt's Digital Cubs Initiative Launches Flexible Online Learning for Students

Flexibility in training has really become a core idea in programs designed to build digital talent, especially with the growing need to make educational content available without the usual limits of time and place. Following this trend, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology has rolled out its first self-learning program under the 'Digital Egypt Cubs Initiative' (DECI). The main goal? To boost the tech skills of middle and high school students. The program is entirely online, which means Egyptian students, whether they're in Egypt or living abroad, can access the training content anytime, anywhere. This really broadens the reach of the initiative and gives participants more freedom to pick up digital skills in a way that fits their school schedules. This step is a continuation of the 'Digital Egypt Cubs Initiative,' which the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology first launched in May 2022 as part of the 'Digital Egypt for Generations' initiatives. It's already been a huge success, training over 168,000 students in the first half of this year alone! This really shows how much the Ministry is expanding its programs to prepare digital talent from early on in their education. The self-learning program aims to support the country's efforts to invest in its people. It does this by giving students the digital and tech skills they'll need for the digital economy. Plus, it helps prepare the next generation to explore future job opportunities in the communications and information technology sector, which is key to Egypt's goal of building a knowledge-based, innovative digital society. To join the program, students in grades 7 through 11 (first prep to second secondary) within Egypt need to have scored between 70% and 89% in English, Math, and Science. For Egyptian students living abroad, the requirement is at least 70% in Math, Science, and English from the previous academic year. Each training level lasts five months, and students have the flexibility to complete the content at their own pace. There are specific criteria to stay in the program, which helps ensure everyone is committed and gets the most out of the training. The program also includes three live sessions during each training period. These sessions are a great chance for participants to connect with trainers and experts, ask questions, and discuss topics related to the training content. The self-learning program is one of three training paths offered by the 'Digital Egypt Cubs Initiative.' The others are the main program, which runs for six months during the school year, and the summer program, which lasts two to three months during the summer break. Each program has its own way of running and different admission rules. The program is structured into five training levels. The first level introduces the basics of computer science and information technology. The second level helps students explore five different tech tracks to figure out their interests. Then, from the third level onwards, students specialize in one of these areas: Digital Arts, Software Development, Networks and Information Security, or Artificial Intelligence and Robotics. But it's not just about tech skills! The program also focuses on developing personal and leadership skills like communication, time management, teamwork, leadership, entrepreneurship, and sustainable development. Students who successfully complete the program receive accredited certificates from the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology. Registration for the self-learning program is open until August 23rd.
