Egypt continues to expand its presence in international forums focused on digital technology and artificial intelligence. This is part of its efforts to boost cooperation with international institutions and actively participate in shaping policies related to emerging technologies.
Egypt was granted observer status in the Steering Committee on New and Emerging Digital Technologies, which is part of the Council of Europe. This decision was made by the Council's Committee of Ministers during their meeting earlier this July.
An Egyptian delegation is set to participate in the committee's upcoming meeting, scheduled from July 21 to 23 this July.
This achievement is a culmination of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology's (MCIT) efforts to strengthen Egypt's presence and representation in international forums focused on emerging digital technologies, and to expand cooperation with European bodies in this vital field.
The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) actively participates in many programs and events organized by the Council of Europe. These include the "South V Program," which focuses on protecting human rights, the rule of law, and democracy through shared standards in the Southern Mediterranean. They also take part in human rights training for legal professionals, and international training on the methodology for assessing risks and impacts related to artificial intelligence systems from a human rights, democracy, and rule of law perspective.
The Ministry also participated in the Lisbon Forum organized by the Council of Europe in 2025, along with several other events that discussed artificial intelligence and personal data protection. This reflects its keen interest in supporting international cooperation in digital technology and governance.
