Corner, the company behind the social mapping app for Gen Z, announced that its total funding has now reached $7.5 million. This latest funding round boosts the company's expansion plans, following two previous funding rounds in 2025 that secured $3.75 million. The New York-based company is getting ready to launch a Series A funding round as it aims to grow its user base and strengthen its position in the market for place discovery and social recommendation apps. Corner was founded in 2022 by Eliza Wu and Jake Shea. It offers a different experience from traditional map apps by relying on user-generated content instead of open databases. The app lets users save their favorite places, write reviews, share photos, and create lists of restaurants, cafes, shops, and entertainment spots. No destination is added to the app's map unless a user saves or recommends it. The company confirmed that the app currently has over 250,000 users across 425 cities, with the largest user base concentrated in New York and several European cities. The company's founders believe this growth shows that users, especially Gen Z, are keen on getting personalized recommendations from people they trust, rather than relying on traditional ratings or general search results. Recently, Corner has been working on improving its in-app search engine by integrating artificial intelligence technologies. This means the platform now offers recommendations based on user reviews and content published within the app. CEO Eliza Wu explained that the company's unique database allows for personalized recommendations for each user, instead of just showing the most popular content. This creates an experience that's more relevant to a user's interests and their friends' activities. The company has expanded the app's capabilities by adding several new features. These include alerts when reservations become available at restaurants a user has saved, the ability to add reservations and events, and a display of popular spots that friends and other users are interested in. The app also provides suggestions based on location and age, aiming to help users discover new places that match their daily interests. Corner is entering a highly competitive market, facing specialized apps like Beli, social apps like Bump, and established services such as Google Maps, Apple Maps, and Yelp. The company believes that what sets its platform apart is its focus on personal social recommendations, rather than just providing location data or navigation. This unique approach has attracted investor interest recently. Beyond the app, the company has invested in building a digital presence across its social platforms. Its digital magazine on Instagram now has over 91,000 followers. The two co-founders have become the media face of the brand, as part of a strategy to build a digital community around the app. Corner confirmed that the new funding will be used to develop the platform, add more features, and prepare for the next growth phase, while continuing to invest in artificial intelligence and improving the place discovery experience. The company's success in doubling its funding in less than a year reflects investor interest in startups that blend social networking, artificial intelligence, and consumer-focused services, especially as competition grows to build more personalized digital experiences.
