Participants at the first forum for startup CEOs, organized by THOTH Consulting under the theme "Bridging the Execution Gap in Regional Market Expansion," emphasized that a company's success in expanding beyond its borders no longer depends solely on product quality or available funding. Instead, it now primarily relies on efficient execution, building flexible operating models, implementing strong governance, and leveraging data for decision-making.
The forum, held under the patronage of the Information Technology Industry Chamber (ITI Chamber) of the Federation of Egyptian Industries, and in partnership with PR+ for Digital Content, brought together a select group of CEOs, entrepreneurs, and decision-makers. Attendees discussed the key challenges facing Egyptian companies as they expand into regional markets and explored ways to boost their readiness for growth and competition.
Governance and AI: The Foundation for Sustainable Businesses
Dr. Ahmed Darwish, former Minister of Administrative Development, highlighted that the global business environment has become increasingly complex due to rapid geopolitical and technological changes. This demands that leaders possess a strategic and forward-looking vision, moving away from short-term decisions and reactive responses.
He explained that customers have become partners in developing products and services, which requires continuous review of business models. He also stressed the importance of distinguishing between strategic planning, which sets the direction for competition, and strategic management, which ensures plans are executed and results are achieved.
He pointed out that governance is the cornerstone for the sustainability of companies, especially family-owned ones. He affirmed that for organizations to grow across generations, they need a clear system for decision-making, risk management, internal auditing, and effective boards and committees. He cautioned against introducing modern technology into traditional administrative systems, considering it one of the main reasons for the failure of institutional transformation.
He added that the success of AI applications starts with data quality and governance. He noted that the biggest opportunity for companies lies in developing specialized AI solutions that meet their specific needs and enhance their operational efficiency, rather than just building massive models.
Haitham Mansour: The Execution Gap is the Most Dangerous Growth Challenge
Engineer Haitham Mansour, Chairman of THOTH Consulting and Business Development, stated that the gap between setting a strategy and executing it represents one of the biggest challenges companies face during growth and expansion phases.
He clarified that having a strong strategy isn't enough for success unless the organization has an operational model capable of translating it into tangible results. He noted that many companies have clear plans, but differing implementation mechanisms across departments often lead to varied outcomes.
He added that expanding into new markets not only multiplies growth opportunities but also increases operational challenges. This necessitates evaluating an organization's readiness before deciding to expand, emphasizing that building a scalable operational model is the true guarantee for sustainable growth.
He indicated that the forum aims to help executive leaders bridge the gap between planning and execution, transforming strategies into measurable results, thereby enhancing the ability of Egyptian companies to compete in regional markets.
Seif Badawy: It's Time to Export Egyptian Technology
Engineer Seif Badawy, Vice Chairman of the Information Technology Industry Chamber (CIT) and Chairman of SWATX Technologies, affirmed that Egypt possesses the necessary capabilities to become a regional technology hub. However, this requires building strong Egyptian companies capable of offering value-added products and services and expanding into foreign markets.
He explained that the Chamber works to support member companies, enhance their efficiency, boost their exports, and open new markets for them. Additionally, it conveys sector challenges to relevant authorities and works to find practical solutions.
He noted that Egypt's digital exports continued to achieve rapid growth rates, reaching $7.4 billion, with $5.2 billion coming from outsourcing services. He stressed that the next phase requires shifting from exporting human talent to exporting Egyptian technological products and services, while strengthening intellectual property and leveraging the presence of global companies in the local market to transfer knowledge and build national companies capable of competing globally.
He added that the Chamber is implementing several initiatives to support technological transformation in the industrial sector, enhance companies' readiness to obtain international professional certifications, and participate in global exhibitions and events. This contributes to boosting the competitiveness of the ICT sector and its role in supporting the national economy.
Participants concluded the forum by emphasizing that the future of companies will not be determined solely by the quality of ideas or the size of investments, but by their ability to build flexible operating systems, implement effective governance, and rely on data for decision-making. This will support their readiness for regional expansion and achieving sustainable growth.
