WiSER Pioneers: Empowering Women to Lead in Energy & Sustainability, Globally from the UAE

With growing environmental challenges and a global shift towards a sustainable economy, initiatives that empower women are becoming crucial. They ensure women play an active role in shaping policies and making decisions. That's why the WiSER platform launched its annual WiSER Pioneers Program. This year-long program acts as a training and strategic platform, aiming to empower young women to become leaders in sustainability, renewable energy, and the environment. The program isn't just about classroom learning; it combines specialized training workshops, one-on-one mentorship sessions with global experts, and networking opportunities with policymakers and industry leaders. This balance between theoretical learning and practical experience reflects the program's vision: turning ambition into real-world leadership skills.

Target Audience

The program is designed for women aged 25 to 35 who hold degrees in environmental studies, energy, sustainability, or STEM fields, and have at least two years of professional experience. Fluency in English is a must, while Arabic is considered a valuable asset for regional communication. These criteria highlight the program's focus on preparing world-class leaders who can work effectively in multicultural teams and actively contribute to the shift towards a green, sustainable economy.

Program Journey

The program runs for 12 months. Participants are expected to attend at least 70% of the workshops and events, and take part in key activities like Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week and the WiSER Annual Forum. The program also encourages participants to provide feedback and help spread a culture of sustainability through their professional networks. This structure shows a comprehensive strategic approach, balancing individual skill development with building a global network. This really boosts participants' ability to lead projects and initiatives in their fields.

Required Skills

For participants to succeed, it's not just about academic qualifications. They also need a positive attitude, a readiness for continuous learning, effective time management, and the ability to work under pressure. These qualities are essential for empowering women in dynamic work environments and complex challenges, especially in rapidly changing sectors like renewable energy and sustainability.

The program brings together four key elements:

Educational and training workshops, covering clean energy, sustainability, and leadership. One-on-one guidance and mentorship with global leaders and experts to boost professional skills and leadership paths. Global networking opportunities, including meetings with experts, policymakers, and industry leaders during international events like COP and Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week. The WiSER Cares initiative, offering practical field experience, such as collaborating with local communities on development and sustainability projects.

Program Impact and Results

Over the years, the program has welcomed more than 150 participants from over 30 nationalities. It has provided over 565 hours of individual mentorship and 540 hours of educational workshops. Many graduates have gone on to launch companies, lead projects, and shape national and international policies, showing the program's growing global impact. The WiSER Pioneers program is part of the broader WiSER platform, which was founded in 2015. Its goal is to boost women's empowerment in the environment, energy, and sustainability sectors, with a strong focus on gender equality. WiSER also organizes annual forums, publishes research papers, and launched the "Words of Wisdom" podcast. These initiatives are part of the United Arab Emirates' efforts to advance women's role in the transition towards carbon neutrality and a sustainable future, making women key partners in shaping a greener tomorrow.
