Uber Launches 'Mashwarha' Initiative to Boost Women's Economic Empowerment in Egypt

Sharing economy platforms are doing more than just offering flexible work; they're increasingly investing in skill development and capacity building as a cornerstone for boosting economic inclusion. This shift shows how tech companies are evolving, launching long-term programs to improve the efficiency of their partners, which in turn expands professional and financial growth opportunities.

In line with this, Uber has announced the launch of its "Mashwarha" (Her Journey) initiative. This is a long-term program designed to support women's economic participation in Egypt by providing opportunities for learning, earning income, and growing. They're doing this through training programs and partnerships with civil society organizations.

For the first phase of the initiative, Uber is partnering with Injaz Egypt to roll out a comprehensive training program specifically for female driver-partners on the Uber platform. The goal is to equip them with practical skills that will support their personal and professional development.

The launch event for the initiative featured a panel discussion moderated by actress and producer Esad Younis. The discussion highlighted the importance of women's empowerment and showcased the experiences of several female driver-partners on the Uber platform, emphasizing how a supportive environment and access to opportunities can boost women's economic independence.

The first phase of the program aims to train 60 female driver-partners from various governorates across Egypt. The training content will focus on developing critical thinking, problem-solving, financial planning, saving, investing, and goal-setting skills. This will help prepare participants to take advantage of future economic opportunities.

The "Mashwarha" initiative is all about expanding women's empowerment through skill development programs, partnerships, and community initiatives. Ultimately, it helps women access greater income sources and achieve their career aspirations.

Mohamed El Shamy, General Manager of Uber in Egypt, shared that the initiative reflects the company's commitment to supporting women's economic participation by providing pathways that open new horizons beyond just mobility services. He noted that the partnership with Injaz Egypt aims to provide female driver-partners with practical skills that will help them achieve their goals and unlock new opportunities.

Yasmine Wilson, Executive Director of Injaz Egypt, emphasized that empowering women starts with giving them the necessary skills and confidence to achieve their goals. She pointed out that the initiative aims to support female driver-partners with life and financial skills that will enhance their ability to grow and thrive.

Uber confirms that the launch of "Mashwarha" marks the beginning of a long-term program that will evolve through new partnerships and initiatives. The goal is to expand its impact and reach a larger number of women across Egypt, reinforcing technology's role in supporting economic inclusion and sustainable development.
