UAE's MGX Explores Potential $20 Billion DayOne Acquisition to Boost AI Infrastructure

MGX, an artificial intelligence company from the UAE, is reportedly exploring a potential acquisition of DayOne, a data center company based in Singapore. This move could really shake up global investments in AI infrastructure, with the deal potentially reaching around $20 billion.

According to circulating information, discussions between the two companies are still in the early stages, and no final agreement has been reached. There seems to be a difference between DayOne's high valuation and the offer MGX has put on the table.

These discussions are part of MGX's strategy to strengthen its presence in the data center sector. This sector is experiencing rapid growth, driven by the increasing global demand for the computing power needed to run and train AI models.

DayOne manages and develops a network of data centers across several markets, including Southeast Asia, Hong Kong, Japan, and Finland. It's backed by a strong base of global investors, including SoftBank Vision Fund and Coatue Management. DayOne had also previously considered going public in both the United States and Singapore.

MGX was founded in 2024 through an initiative by Mubadala and G42. It holds investments in prominent AI companies like OpenAI, Anthropic, and xAI, and is also involved in major infrastructure alliances with BlackRock and NVIDIA.

The company's investments also extend to other areas, including arrangements related to TikTok's operations in the United States, as well as investment commitments in the Binance platform. This is all part of a broader effort to boost its global presence in the technology and AI economy.
