Three Startups from Upper Egypt Win Big at Gemini Africa's Incubation Program

Gemini Africa recently celebrated the grand finale of the third edition of its business incubation program, specifically designed to support startups in Upper Egypt. The event, dubbed 'Demo Day,' brought together a distinguished group of entrepreneurs, investors, strategic partners, and various organizations dedicated to boosting Egypt's entrepreneurial ecosystem. This celebration marks a significant milestone in efforts to champion innovation and entrepreneurship in Upper Egypt's governorates. The program's core mission was to empower young entrepreneurs, helping them transform their ideas into viable, scalable businesses through specialized training, practical mentorship, and connecting them with funding and market opportunities. The third edition of the program saw widespread participation from several Upper Egypt governorates, including Minya, Assiut, Sohag, Qena, Luxor, and Aswan. Around 600 startups applied, and 111 of them were selected to join the training program and incubator. The program clearly focuses on supporting projects with a strong social impact, especially by building the capabilities of entrepreneurs in areas that traditionally have fewer investment opportunities. Notably, women made up 54% of participants, highlighting their growing role in Upper Egypt's entrepreneurial landscape. Demo Day was the culmination of a months-long training journey, where 19 qualifying startups competed before a specialized judging panel. They were evaluated on criteria like innovation, social impact, feasibility, and potential for growth and expansion. After an exciting competition, three startups were awarded financial prizes totaling 210,000 EGP. Insight Learn secured first place for its inclusive education project, which uses innovative 3D models to support both visually impaired and sighted children, enhancing interactive learning experiences. iBIKIA took second place. This company specializes in waste management solutions, offering a digital application that simplifies recycling for individuals and connects users to a more efficient waste management system. Third place went to Pottery Hub, a company dedicated to reviving traditional pottery in Upper Egypt. They achieve this by integrating artificial intelligence with handcrafted techniques, which helps improve production quality and create new job opportunities for young people. Adly Touma, Managing Director of Gemini Africa, emphasized that the program aims to empower social entrepreneurs, especially young people and women, to become agents of change within their communities. He noted that past years have shown these projects can achieve tangible results, attracting investments and gaining local and international recognition, which strengthens the sustainability of this model within Egypt's entrepreneurial environment.
