PlayReplay Secures $12 Million to Boost AI-Powered Smart Courts for Racket Sports

Artificial intelligence (AI) technologies are really making their mark in the sports world, with a growing trend towards developing smarter tools for refereeing, analysis, and performance on the court. In line with this, PlayReplay, a startup focused on creating smart court systems for racket sports, just announced they've raised $12 million in new funding! This big step aims to speed up their international expansion and boost their presence in the Middle East. This investment round saw participation from Alfvén & Didrikson (A&D), along with several other investors, including Centre Court Capital, ExM Investment Partners, Charbe Partners, and Crimson Sports Capital, plus a fund managed by LionTree.

Smart Tech to Revolutionize the Tennis Experience

PlayReplay develops real-time electronic line calling (ELC) technologies, alongside a suite of training and sports analytics tools. This means players can now access advanced tech that was previously only available at the highest professional levels. These technologies are fantastic for promoting fair play in tennis, and they also boost engagement and reliance on data for managing matches and training. The company's solutions have really caught the eye of players and sports federations worldwide, thanks to their potential to improve the playing experience and increase participation rates.

New Expansion into the Middle East

This fresh funding will support PlayReplay's plans to expand into more global markets, hand-in-hand with a strategy to strengthen its footprint in the Middle East, especially in Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, and Egypt. As part of these expansion efforts, the company has partnered with Söderhub, who will act as their local partner in the Middle East. This partnership will help foster investment opportunities and collaborations with regional organizations. Majdi Shehata, Founder and CEO of Söderhub, shared, "PlayReplay's technology has already proven its worth and generated significant momentum in markets like the US and Canada. We truly believe the Middle East offers a strong long-term opportunity, given the accelerating ambitions, investments, and passion for next-generation sports infrastructure."

Betting on Global Growth

The investment will also help PlayReplay expand into new sports and continue rolling out its technologies to clubs and sports federations worldwide. Mans Alfvén, Co-founder of Alfvén & Didrikson, commented, "PlayReplay is one of the fastest-growing companies in our investment portfolio, operating in a huge market with over 250,000 courts in the US alone. Hans, Mattias, and the team have built impressive technology backed by strong execution, and we're excited to support them in this next phase of growth."

Redefining the Game Experience

Hans Lundstam, CEO and Co-founder of PlayReplay, said, "This investment marks a significant milestone in our journey to redefine the tennis experience for every player on Earth. It also reflects the strong interest from investors in the value of our product and the momentum we're gaining in the market. We are incredibly grateful for the resources, advice, and hands-on support A&D has already provided, and we look forward to a fruitful and highly supportive collaboration." Mattias Hanqvist, Head of Product and Co-founder of PlayReplay, added, "Seeing the technology we've built make a real difference for players, coaches, and federations is what drives us forward. This investment gives us the chance to bring this experience to even more courts and sports around the world."
