People of Data: Egyptian Startups Leading the AI Race for Fast Economic Growth

As digital transformation speeds up globally, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is no longer just a technical option; it's now a crucial factor determining how well economies can grow and compete. In this fast-paced environment, startups are emerging as the most agile and capable drivers of this technology, creating rapid economic impact, especially in growing markets like Egypt. This is exactly why the “People of Data - Sharks Edition” event was held in Cairo. It offered a practical and bold vision for how AI can move from being a theoretical tool to a real engine for economic growth in a short timeframe, specifically within 18 months. The discussions clearly aimed at finding practical applications that deliver immediate returns. Participants asked a key question: How can effective AI accelerate Egypt's economic growth in the near future? This shows a shift in market thinking, moving from focusing on future potential to achieving tangible results right now. The panel discussion covered three main themes, which together outlined a roadmap for the future. The first theme explored how AI's role is changing from just a supportive tool to a "colleague" within organizations. This has direct implications for the nature of jobs and the skills needed in the future. The second theme highlighted the responsibility of companies, especially startups, to lead this transformation rather than just keeping up. Startups have an advantage with their quick decision-making and ability to innovate compared to traditional entities. The third theme focused on what Egyptian organizations need to do to strongly enter the global innovation race, emphasizing investment in digital infrastructure and developing human talent capable of working with AI technologies. This vision was led by Youssef Kamal and Magdy Moussa, co-founders of the People of Data community, alongside Reem El Tayeb, who played a significant role in supporting diversity and empowering women leaders in the tech sector. This reflects a commitment to building a more inclusive and sustainable tech community. The event also saw participation from several entrepreneurs, including Mohamed Farouk and Ahmed Tarek. They shared practical insights on investment opportunities related to AI applications, stressing that the current phase is a golden opportunity for companies that can move quickly and innovate with applicable solutions. This event highlights a growing trend towards building a strong regional AI platform. The People of Data community aims to solidify its position as the largest specialized gathering in this field within the Arab region, by creating a collaborative environment that brings together innovators, companies, and decision-makers.
