Orange Corners: Fueling Egyptian Startup Growth with Strategic Partnerships

The "Orange Corners" program is a leading international initiative that champions entrepreneurship in emerging markets. Launched by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it acts as a comprehensive platform designed to empower young entrepreneurs, helping them transform innovative ideas into sustainable, growing businesses, all while focusing on creating a tangible economic and developmental impact.

An Integrated Model for Building Startups

The program uses a business model that combines developing technical skills with connecting startups to funding systems and markets. Orange Corners targets early-stage projects, offering intensive training programs that cover various aspects of business management, from developing business models and financial planning to expansion and growth strategies.

The program also provides individual and group mentorship sessions led by experts and investors. On top of that, it offers co-working spaces and networking opportunities with the business community, both locally and internationally, all to boost the chances of startup success.

Pillars of Support and Geographic Expansion

Orange Corners focuses on delivering a complete package of services. This includes practical training, strategic guidance, easier access to funding sources, and building strong networks with local and international partners.

The program is active in several countries across Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. It has a clear focus on markets with high growth potential, working through local partnerships to ensure its services perfectly match the needs of each specific market.

A Pivotal Role in Supporting Egypt's Entrepreneurship Ecosystem

In Egypt, the program is a key tool for developing the startup ecosystem. It prepares entrepreneurs to launch competitive businesses and connects them with funding opportunities and regional and international markets. It also helps support the government's drive to boost innovation and create sustainable job opportunities, especially in high-value sectors.

Economic and Developmental Impact

Orange Corners aims to achieve a long-term impact. This means increasing the rate of new startup formations, improving their chances of survival and growth, creating both direct and indirect job opportunities, and supporting the shift towards an economy driven by innovation and knowledge.

A New Agreement to Boost Support in Egypt

In a fresh move to strengthen international cooperation, the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency (MSMEDA) signed a cooperation agreement with "Outreach Egypt" for Development Consultations. Outreach Egypt is the implementing partner for the Orange Corners program in Egypt, and this agreement aims to expand the non-financial services offered to entrepreneurs and support startups.

The agreement was signed at the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Cairo, with the Dutch Ambassador present. Bassem Rahmy, MSMEDA's CEO, and Heba El Refaie, Outreach Egypt's General Manager, signed the agreement alongside several leaders from both sides.

Bassem Rahmy emphasized that this agreement aligns with MSMEDA's developmental role in creating a supportive environment for entrepreneurship. He highlighted the ongoing expansion of coordination with international partners to implement initiatives aimed at supporting youth and innovators, seeing them as a cornerstone for achieving sustainable development. He added that the partnership with Outreach Egypt is a great example of how national institutions and international expertise can work together, helping to create a nurturing environment for startups to grow and strengthen their ability to access markets.

For his part, the Dutch Ambassador in Cairo affirmed that the Orange Corners program is a pioneering initiative that truly reflects the Netherlands' commitment to supporting entrepreneurship. He noted that the collaboration with MSMEDA embodies an effective partnership focused on empowering youth, especially in underserved areas like Upper Egypt and the Delta. He also added that the program pays special attention to women's empowerment, with women making up over 50% of the beneficiaries, which really boosts opportunities for inclusive economic participation.
