Mohamed Okasha's FinTech Journey: From Fawry to Disruptech Ventures

Mohamed Okasha is truly one of Egypt's most prominent entrepreneurs and investors in the FinTech sector. He's played a crucial role in founding and growing some of the most important digital payment companies and startups in the region.

Okasha, an Egyptian national, graduated from the American University in Cairo (AUC) in 1995, where he studied Computer Science and Business Administration. This academic background laid the foundation for his professional journey in the technology and telecommunications sector.

He kicked off his career at Raya Holding, working there for nearly ten years and moving up through various management positions. After that, he joined Vodafone Egypt, where he took on responsibilities in marketing and sales across several markets in Africa and Asia. This experience gave him a broad regional understanding of business management and international expansion.

In 2009, Mohamed Okasha co-founded Fawry alongside Ashraf Sabry and Magda Habib. Fawry later grew to become one of Egypt's largest digital payment platforms. Under his leadership, the company saw significant expansion in electronic payment services before being listed on the Egyptian Exchange in 2019. Its initial public offering was incredibly popular, oversubscribed by about 30 times, marking one of the FinTech sector's most notable successes in the local market.

After leaving Fawry in 2020, Okasha shifted his focus to direct investment in startups. He founded Disruptech Ventures, a venture capital firm specifically dedicated to supporting FinTech companies in Egypt. He launched the company with an initial investment fund of $25 million, aiming to finance dozens of startups over several years, with a strong focus on digital solutions for individuals and small and medium-sized businesses.

Disruptech's investment portfolio includes several companies operating in FinTech and digital services, such as those offering digital payment, financing, and business solutions. This clearly shows a commitment to boosting Egypt's digital economy.

Mohamed Okasha is widely regarded as a key figure in the region's digital transformation and entrepreneurship scene. He brings together hands-on operational experience in building successful companies with an investment vision that targets emerging markets, all while increasingly focusing on growth opportunities across the African continent, especially in the FinTech sector.
