Meta's New 'Seller' App: Making Facebook Marketplace Easier for Businesses with AI

Meta is expanding its e-commerce support tools across its platforms with the launch of a new app called "Seller." This app is specifically designed for Facebook Marketplace sellers, aiming to provide more efficient solutions for managing sales and improving customer communication. The new app lets sellers manage product listings, ads, messages, and sales history from a standalone platform that links to their existing Facebook Marketplace accounts. This makes it easier to keep track of business operations and boost the performance of listed products. The launch of "Seller" comes as commerce activity continues to grow within Facebook Groups. This growth led the company to introduce "Marketplace" about a decade ago, a service that relies on product listings and paid promotions to generate revenue. It has since become one of the main channels for buying and selling on the platform. By developing Facebook Marketplace tools, Meta aims to strengthen its competitive edge against global e-commerce platforms like eBay. It does this by improving the experience for both users and sellers, especially since about 430 million products are listed monthly worldwide on the platform, according to Reuters. The "Seller" app uses a suite of AI-powered tools. These include assistance with creating ads, a unified inbox for communicating with buyers, and tools for managing inventory and analyzing product and sales performance. The company explained that the app is currently available for iPhone users aged 18 and over in the United States. A web version is also being tested for users who download the app. In a related effort to boost trust across its platforms, Meta also launched "Facebook Verified." This service offers a free verification badge to confirm that accounts belong to real people. The verification process involves a selfie photo, aiming to support authenticity and safety standards. Last May, Meta also launched a new app called "Forum" for Facebook Groups users. This was part of its plan to develop communication and digital community management tools across its platforms.
