Amazon Egypt GM: Egypt's E-commerce Market is Poised for Huge Growth

Omar Al-Sahy, the General Manager of Amazon Egypt, shared his thoughts on the Egyptian e-commerce market, stating it still holds immense growth opportunities. He highlighted that e-commerce currently contributes less than 5% to Egypt's total trade volume, a figure significantly lower than global markets where it exceeds 10%. Al-Sahy emphasized that evolving consumer behavior and the expansion of digital solutions are set to propel the sector into a new phase of growth in the coming years. Speaking at the press conference for the launch of Amazon Now in Egypt, he noted that countries like the United States, France, and Japan see e-commerce accounting for over 10% of their total commercial activity. In contrast, the Egyptian market is still at the early stages of its growth curve, which points to substantial investment and operational opportunities. He clarified that the lower percentage of e-commerce in Egypt doesn't signal a weak market. Instead, it underscores the vast potential for expansion, whether through increasing digital sales or by building a comprehensive ecosystem that includes technology, fulfillment centers, logistics services, supply chains, and delivery services.
