Cairo's Public Transport Launches 'Tawwaly' App for Easier Bus Travel

As digital transformation speeds up in vital public services, Cairo's Public Transport Authority is making a big move to redefine daily travel. They've launched their smart app, 'Tawwaly,' as a key tool to modernize the city's public transport system. This app isn't just for booking tickets or topping up cards; it represents a deeper shift in how services are delivered. The goal is to reduce direct interactions, simplify procedures, and embrace digital solutions that fit our fast-paced city life. Now, with just your mobile phone, you can manage your entire journey, from planning to payment, without waiting in lines or needing cash.

Integrated Services

'Tawwaly' offers a full suite of services, including buying tickets electronically and topping up your prepaid 'Tawwaly' card. It also provides operational information to help users choose the best routes. This all helps improve the daily efficiency of the transport system and eases the pressure on traditional ticket counters.

Track Your Bus

One of the coolest features is that the 'Tawwaly' app lets users track their trips in real-time on their mobile phones. You can see your bus's location, its estimated arrival time, and even get an accurate estimate of your journey duration. More broadly, the launch of this app shows a growing trend towards digitizing public transport services across Egypt. It's all part of the effort to build a smart, more sustainable transport system. Expanding electronic payment systems doesn't just make things better for users; it also boosts operational efficiency, promotes transparency, and provides accurate data that can be used to plan networks and improve services in the future. This step also opens the door for integrating additional services down the line, like tracking other modes of transport in real-time or linking the app with different transport options. This really strengthens the idea of 'integrated mobility' within the city.

How to Use the 'Tawwaly' App

Getting started with the 'Tawwaly' app is super easy! First, download it from your app store. Then, create an account using your mobile number. Next, you'll top up your balance through the 'Wallet' option, using available payment methods like bank cards or e-wallets. After that, the app lets you choose either 'Buy Ticket' or 'Pay for Public Transport' directly from the main screen. Once you've picked your bus line or ticket type from the available options, you can complete the payment electronically. The ticket value is deducted instantly from your balance. You'll then receive an electronic ticket or a QR Code, which you can show to the driver or ticket inspector on the bus. This ensures a much smoother and faster travel experience, all without needing to handle cash!
