A report from the World Bank, created in collaboration with the National Center for E-Learning, confirmed that Saudi Arabia has made significant strides in bringing Artificial Intelligence (AI) into its education sector. They've done this by building a comprehensive system aimed at boosting the skills of teachers and educational leaders, and getting educational institutions ready to handle new technologies. The report highlighted the crucial role played by the National Institute for Educational Professional Development (NIEPD) in supporting the digital transformation of the education sector. NIEPD is a key player in developing the skills of education staff by designing and running specialized training programs. These programs help teachers and school leaders use AI tools effectively and responsibly. The report explained that NIEPD's efforts are part of the AISandBox initiative, which is run by the National Center for E-Learning. This initiative aims to encourage the adoption of AI solutions in education, test new tech applications, and develop practical usage models that help improve learning outcomes. The report also shined a light on the summer program called "Employing AI in Digital Education." This program was carried out by the National Center for E-Learning in partnership with NIEPD. Its goal was to empower teachers to use AI applications to improve their teaching methods and boost their ability to leverage modern technologies for a better learning experience. The report emphasized that successfully implementing AI in educational institutions isn't just about providing technical tools. It also requires building a complete system that includes developing digital infrastructure, strengthening governance, and having supportive institutional leadership, along with continuous investment in training and qualifying human talent. It also pointed out that expanding the use of AI technologies in education calls for ongoing professional development programs for teachers and educational leaders. This includes providing practical training and the necessary tools to ensure these technologies are used optimally and have a real impact on education quality. The report stressed the importance of teamwork among the various bodies involved in education and digital transformation in the Kingdom. It clarified that moving from limited experiments to widespread institutional application needs a comprehensive governance framework. This framework should bring together the Ministry of Education, the Education and Training Evaluation Commission, the National Curricula Center, and the National Institute for Educational Professional Development. This collaboration will boost efficiency in implementation and ensure the sustainable development of human capital. It was also noted that NIEPD's participation as an institutional partner in the studies and interviews conducted by the World Bank team during the report's preparation helped provide local expertise. This expertise focused on building teachers' professional capabilities and developing their skills in using AI within the educational environment. The report concluded by stating that Saudi Arabia's experience in preparing its education workforce to handle AI is an advanced model for digital transformation in education. It reflects the Kingdom's drive to foster innovation and develop human capital, aligning perfectly with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 to build an economy based on knowledge and modern technologies.
