Safer Internet Day Shines Light on Egypt's Internet Surge and 10%+ Subscriber Growth

As digital transformation speeds up and our reliance on communication and internet services grows, Safer Internet Day comes along to highlight a super important balance: expanding internet use while also boosting digital security and protecting users. This day is especially significant in Egypt, given the clear leaps and bounds the telecom sector is making, both in the number of subscribers and the variety of digital services available.

Today, the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) released a report for Safer Internet Day, which is celebrated annually in February. This global event is sponsored by the Insafe network, part of the EU's "Safeborders" project, and involves around 190 countries and regions worldwide. Its goal is to encourage safe and responsible use of the internet and mobile phones, especially as technology plays an ever-growing role in all aspects of our lives.

This year's theme, "Smart Technology... Safe Choices – Exploring Safe and Responsible AI Use," shows how the challenges in the digital world are growing, especially with the rapid increase in relying on AI technologies and smart services. This makes boosting cybersecurity awareness and protecting personal data a top priority.

The latest official data reveals a remarkable increase in active mobile internet subscribers, reaching 95.94 million by November 2025, up from 86.99 million in November 2024. That's an annual growth rate of 10.29%! This jump reflects the huge expansion in mobile phone services and the widespread use of digital apps, which have become a key part of our daily lives, whether for government, financial, or commercial services.

Similarly, the total number of broadband internet subscribers climbed to 12.60 million by November 2025, compared to 11.56 million during the same period last year, showing a 9% growth. This growth is fueled by the increasing reliance on fixed-line internet for educational services, remote work, e-commerce, and other entertainment and service uses.

These indicators show a growing user base and increasing dependence on digital infrastructure. This puts digital security at the top of the priority list, not just for protecting individuals, but also for supporting sustainable digital transformation and building trust in electronic services, especially with the expanding use of AI and data analysis technologies.

This surge in subscriber numbers confirms that the next phase requires a delicate balance between continuing to expand telecom and internet services and stepping up awareness, legislative, and technical efforts to ensure safe and responsible technology use. This will boost the digital economy's returns and protect user rights in a more secure and sustainable digital environment.
