Hany Naguib: Young Entrepreneurs Grapple with Ambition and the Need for Recognition

Hany Naguib, an innovation and entrepreneurship consultant, shared his thoughts on the current state of the entrepreneurship community, noting a growing divide between two distinct groups within the ecosystem. He explained that on one side, you have established leaders and influencers whose dreams and experiences have expanded over time. On the other, there are many entrepreneurs and followers who feel their voices aren't being heard as clearly as they should be. Naguib further clarified in a recent post that some entrepreneurs are starting to feel that their dreams and projects constantly need approval or recognition from others before they even feel worthy of pursuing them. He stressed that his comments aren't meant to criticize specific people, but rather to understand the evolving dynamics within the entrepreneurship scene. He added that this situation might be a natural outcome of a long journey filled with both successes and setbacks. Sometimes, success can make people observe the scene from a distance instead of actively participating. Meanwhile, repeated disappointments can slowly erode hope for others, leading to a sense of frustration. Naguib emphasized that he still firmly believes entrepreneurship is a vital investment in Egypt's future. However, he warned that it won't be able to play its crucial role if it becomes a space where only a few voices are heard, or if many young people feel that their chances for growth and achieving their dreams hinge on getting approval or support from certain groups or individuals. He also mentioned that what truly caught his eye recently wasn't the heated comments or the ongoing debates, but rather the deep emotions driving those interactions. He observed that many responses showed a feeling among some young people that they aren't being seen or heard enough within the entrepreneurship community. He added that a large number of entrepreneurs are seeking appreciation, respect, and support. They want to find people who will champion them on their professional journey, rather than constantly feeling like they have to wait for someone to give them a chance or pick them. Hany Naguib concluded by emphasizing that the heart of this issue isn't about personal squabbles or individual opinions. Instead, it reflects a genuine desire among many to foster more hope within the entrepreneurship community and to lessen the feeling that success requires getting prior permission or recognition from others.
