Egypt to Host African Youth AI & Robotics Competition in 2026: Here's How to Join!

In a move that reflects Egypt's growing role within Africa's technological innovation system, Egypt has been chosen to host the third edition of the African Presidency Youth Competition in Artificial Intelligence and Robotics for 2026. This is one of the continent's most prominent initiatives, aiming to reshape the future of Africa's digital economy by empowering youth and expanding the applications of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

This hosting comes as a collaboration between the African Union Development Agency and the Ele-vate AI Africa initiative, under the patronage of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology. It's a clear sign of increasing confidence in Egypt's digital infrastructure and its ability to host major international events in advanced technology fields.

The competition's importance isn't just about the rivalry; it also serves as a strategic platform. It aims to transform innovative ideas into practical, real-world solutions using AI and robotics technologies, which helps boost African youth's ability to tackle economic and social challenges with modern digital tools.

This initiative seeks to build a direct communication network between young innovators on one side, and investors, decision-makers, and industry leaders on the other. This opens the door for a more integrated environment to support innovation and speed up the transition of ideas from experimental stages to commercial application, aligning perfectly with the goals of the African Union's Agenda 2063.

This year's edition stands out by featuring 12 main themes covering strategic sectors like healthcare, agriculture, fintech, education, and climate tech. It also includes advanced tracks such as AI ethics and quantum computing, showing a broader interest beyond traditional applications towards more complex and impactful future technologies.

The 'Presidential Award' is a key motivator in the competition, given to the most impactful innovations capable of creating sustainable change across the continent. Finalists also get the chance to appear at prestigious international events, such as the World AI for Good Summit, organized by the International Telecommunication Union.

In the same vein, this step strengthens Egypt's position as an emerging regional hub in AI and robotics. This is especially true with the expansion of national initiatives supporting technological entrepreneurship and the establishment of an integrated system that combines education, research, and practical application, all contributing to creating an attractive environment for investment and innovation within the technology sector.

The accompanying events for the competition, including the virtual seminar scheduled for May 6th, clearly show a commitment to directly involving Egyptian youth in Africa's AI ecosystem. This is done by introducing them to participation opportunities, innovation pathways, and funding and mentorship mechanisms, thereby paving the way for a new generation of innovators capable of competing regionally and internationally.

The seminar starts at 2:00 PM. To attend, please click here
