The Egyptian National Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (NTRA) has just signed off on new licenses for "Internet of Things" (IoT) services for cars in Egypt, granting them to Mercedes-Benz Egypt for Trading. This exciting step is part of Egypt's "Digital Egypt" strategy, which aims to bring the latest global technologies home, offer more advanced and safer services to Egyptian users, and continue the NTRA's vision of opening up new investment opportunities in the IoT sector.
The agreement was signed with Eng. Mohamed Shamroukh, CEO of the NTRA, and Ms. Stephanie Volz, President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz Egypt for Trading, both in attendance, alongside other leaders from the NTRA and company representatives.
During the signing, Eng. Shamroukh shared that granting these new licenses is a crucial move to support digital transformation and strengthen the smart vehicle ecosystem in the Egyptian market, perfectly aligning with the goals of the Digital Egypt strategy.
He added that making IoT services available for cars will significantly boost road safety, enhance the user experience, and improve the efficiency of vehicle management and operation. He emphasized the NTRA's commitment to establishing clear regulatory frameworks to ensure these services operate safely, with full adherence to data protection and privacy standards.
Eng. Shamroukh also explained that licenses are issued under strict technical and regulatory controls to guarantee service quality and sustainability. He noted that the NTRA continues to welcome more international companies and brands to leverage Egypt's advanced digital infrastructure, which will boost market competitiveness and keep pace with global developments in telecommunications and information technology.
IoT for cars empowers drivers to safely and systematically use navigation, tracking systems, and emergency assistance, all while ensuring user data and privacy are protected.
It's worth mentioning that the NTRA had previously enabled seven other global brands specializing in smart vehicle manufacturing to operate IoT services for cars in Egypt.
