Hey everyone! The Science, Technology & Innovation Funding Authority (STDF) in Egypt has announced that applications are now open for its new "Faculty for Factory Program" (FFF). This program is super exciting because it aims to build stronger connections between scientific research and the industrial sector. The goal is to take all that amazing scientific research and turn it into practical solutions that help improve production and make our national industries more competitive. This program is a big step forward, aligning with Egypt's national push to deepen local manufacturing and create better integration between our research institutions and industrial companies. It's all about putting academic knowledge to work to solve real-world challenges right there on the factory floor. Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, highlighted that this program is a strategic move to really make scientific research count. By moving researchers from their academic settings directly into factories, they can offer innovative solutions to actual industrial problems. This will definitely help boost production efficiency and make Egyptian industry more competitive globally. The Minister also pointed out that embedding researchers within production environments shows Egypt's commitment to building an economy driven by knowledge. It strengthens the role of universities and research centers in supporting economic development through direct partnerships with the industrial sector. Dr. Walaa Sheta, the CEO of STDF, explained that the program is a cutting-edge model for funding innovation that comes directly from real industrial challenges. He emphasized that STDF is focused on supporting applied research that creates a direct, tangible impact on production lines. He added that the program is designed to strengthen partnerships between academic institutions and factories. It does this by allowing researchers to be directly present in industrial workplaces. This hands-on approach helps them get a much clearer understanding of the challenges, leading to the development of practical solutions that can be implemented. Ultimately, this will help transfer technology and localize knowledge within Egypt. The program is looking for faculty members and researchers from government universities, research centers, and institutes to work full-time inside factories for a period of 4 to 6 months. There's a detailed plan that starts with integrating into the factory, then assessing the challenges, and finally developing practical solutions or prototypes that can be used in industrial settings. To participate, the program requires a partnership between an academic institution and an existing Egyptian factory. The main researcher needs to be a faculty member from a government university or research center, hold a PhD in a related field, and be able to dedicate themselves full-time to working at the factory for the entire program duration. It's also preferred that the researcher is in an early stage of their career, as this helps develop a new generation of researchers who are skilled at working in industrial environments. Additionally, the host factory must be an industrial entity within Egypt. It needs to be capable of hosting the researcher and providing access to its production processes, data, facilities, and the technical teams necessary to carry out the project. Regarding funding, the program offers a monthly stipend for the principal investigator throughout the project. There's also a possibility of supporting a postgraduate student as part of the research team, subject to approval.
