The Ministerial Group for Entrepreneurship, led by Dr. Hussein Issa, Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, held its second meeting. This gathering followed the Prime Minister's decision to re-form the group last April and included several ministers and officials involved in economic and entrepreneurial affairs. Among those who participated were Dr. Badr Abdel Atty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptians Abroad; Dr. Sherif Farouk, Minister of Supply and Internal Trade; Dr. Maya Morsi, Minister of Social Solidarity; Eng. Khaled Hashem, Minister of Industry; Yasser Sobhy, Deputy Minister of Finance; Dr. Islam Azzam, Head of the Financial Regulatory Authority; and Basel Rahmy, CEO of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency (MSMEDA), along with other relevant officials. At the start of the meeting, Dr. Hussein Issa emphasized that entrepreneurship is a top priority for the Egyptian state and government. He highlighted the crucial role startups play as key drivers of economic growth, innovation, and the creation of quality job opportunities. He noted that the government is working to build a more competitive and attractive business environment for startups by uniting national efforts and enhancing coordination among various ministries and entities. This approach aims to maximize the benefits of existing initiatives and programs, leading to tangible economic and developmental impacts. He also stressed the importance of direct communication with entrepreneurs and startup owners, listening to their suggestions and challenges, and working to overcome them in coordination with relevant authorities. Additionally, he highlighted the need to support outstanding ideas and empower them to grow and expand both locally and internationally. He further affirmed the importance of opening new markets for Egyptian startups and enhancing integration among government bodies to launch joint initiatives that support building a unified entrepreneurship ecosystem. For his part, Dr. Badr Abdel Atty affirmed that supporting entrepreneurship is one of the main engines for sustainable economic growth. He explained that empowering innovative youth and transforming their ideas into scalable projects is a direct investment in the future of the national economy. He pointed out the importance of simplifying company registration procedures and providing a flexible regulatory environment. He also stressed enhancing funding as a key element in supporting startups, working to provide innovative funding sources through international cooperation programs, and supporting business incubators and accelerators. He further emphasized the importance of training, skill development, supporting innovation centers, and enhancing cooperation between universities, scientific research centers, and the private sector to build an integrated entrepreneurship system. He called for involving the entrepreneurship community and the private sector in shaping relevant policies and legislation to better respond to market needs. He also affirmed the ministry's readiness to support Egyptian startups' access to global markets through its international relations and memoranda of understanding with development partners. During the meeting, Eng. Khaled Hashem reviewed the Ministry of Industry's efforts to support entrepreneurs and startups through the Industrial Development Authority and the Industrial Modernization Center. He mentioned ongoing work to identify investment opportunities and industrial needs in several priority sectors. He emphasized the importance of enhancing the role of the Industrial Modernization Center to become an integrated platform for industrial innovation and providing advice to investors, in addition to its role in linking industry with universities and scientific research centers to transform ideas into productive projects with added value. In turn, Dr. Sherif Farouk highlighted the importance of simplifying procedures for company and trademark registration and issuing licenses, which contributes to improving the business environment. He reviewed cooperation opportunities with entrepreneurs in several sectors, especially food industries through the Holding Company for Food Industries, which supports knowledge transfer and enhances the capabilities of new projects. From her side, Dr. Maya Morsi explained that the Ministry of Social Solidarity implements economic empowerment, financial inclusion, and entrepreneurship programs, especially for the most vulnerable groups and youth. She noted the implementation of the Strategic Financial System program in partnership with over 34 entities from the state, private sector, and civil society. She added that the ministry has provided financing worth 6.7 billion Egyptian Pounds for micro and small enterprises, in addition to cooperating with the Ministry of Higher Education to spread entrepreneurship culture within universities and qualify students to establish their own projects. Meanwhile, Yasser Sobhy, Deputy Minister of Finance, reviewed the package of tax incentives and financial facilities offered to support entrepreneurs. He explained the application of a simplified tax system and the provision of easy financing mechanisms to alleviate burdens and stimulate growth and expansion. At the end of the meeting, participants emphasized the importance of continued coordination among government entities, the private sector, financing institutions, and the entrepreneurship community. The goal is to build an integrated national system that supports innovation, fosters the growth and expansion of startups locally and internationally, and contributes to achieving sustainable economic development goals, increasing employment rates, and enhancing the competitiveness of the Egyptian economy.
