MNT-Hala, Egypt and the Middle East's first FinTech unicorn, announced the successful first close of an investment round led by Al Ahly Capital, the investment arm of the National Bank of Egypt. This marks a significant milestone for the company and for Egypt's non-banking financial services and FinTech sectors. This achievement follows the completion of all necessary approvals from relevant regulatory bodies. Work is currently underway for the second close of this investment round, with no additional details about the deal disclosed yet. This round contributes to raising MNT-Hala's valuation to $1.4 billion, strengthening its position as one of the region's leading FinTech platforms and reflecting investor confidence in the company's long-term growth strategy and market leadership. MNT-Hala plans to use the majority of these investment proceeds for expansion within the Egyptian market, alongside supporting its regional expansion plans. Over the past years, MNT-Hala has successfully established itself as one of the largest non-banking financial institutions operating in Egypt and Turkey. It also acquired a specialized bank for financing small and micro-enterprises in Pakistan and launched operations in the United Arab Emirates in 2024, with plans to continue expanding into new markets in the Arabian Gulf region. This investment underscores the ongoing collaboration between banking financial institutions and the non-banking financial services and FinTech sectors. It reflects the growing confidence of institutions in the role this sector plays in enhancing financial inclusion and driving economic growth in Egypt. This deal aligns with Al Ahly Capital's strategy to invest in leading companies with high growth rates, as MNT-Hala is considered one of the most prominent FinTech platforms in the region. This investment also reflects Al Ahly Capital's commitment to supporting companies that contribute to expanding financial services and fostering economic development. The FinTech sector is currently receiving increasing support from regulatory bodies as part of their efforts to accelerate digital transformation and broaden the base of beneficiaries of financial and banking services, ensuring they are available more efficiently and securely. Mounir Nakhla, Founder and Chairman of MNT-Hala, stated: "I am absolutely delighted to welcome Al Ahly Capital, the investment arm of Egypt's largest bank, to our list of shareholders. Over the past years, we have collaborated with more than 30 Egyptian and regional banks and financing entities. However, this is the first time a national banking institution has become an equity partner in the company, making this step a crucial milestone in our journey." He added: "We are capable of redefining the concept of access to financial services at a time when traditional systems still face challenges in serving individuals and owners of small and micro-enterprises, as well as reaching citizens in cities and villages across the Republic." Nakhla further explained: "Over the past years, we have helped more than 4 million individuals and business owners develop their projects and meet their families' financial needs. We've enabled them to own their first smartphones and join the digital world, and we've provided financing for various types of vehicles, whether for commercial or personal use. This investment reflects confidence in the company and is proof of the strong relationship between the banking sector and the non-banking financial services sector." Karim Saada, CEO and Managing Director of Al Ahly Capital, commented: "At Al Ahly Capital, we are pleased to complete this investment in MNT-Hala. It reflects our confidence in the company's ability to continue growing regionally, as well as the efficiency of its management team and their capacity to execute an ambitious vision that has achieved tangible success on the ground." He continued: "Over the past years, MNT-Hala has solidified its position as one of the most prominent FinTech and non-banking financial services platforms in the region. It has successfully built an integrated and diverse ecosystem that serves millions of customers and helps bridge essential gaps in financial inclusion."
