Dr. Walid Sweida, Chairman of Al-Deqa Engineering Consultations Company and head of the Engineering Consultations Committee at the Egyptian Businessmen's Association, emphasized that his journey studying for a Professional Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) wasn't just an academic path to get a certificate. Instead, it was an experience that brought about a fundamental shift in his way of thinking. He explained in a Facebook post that his studies and practical experience showed him that the problem isn't a lack of experience within organizations, but rather weak mechanisms for transferring and managing this experience correctly. He pointed out that when expertise remains tied only to individuals, it's at risk of being lost. He added that transforming knowledge from individual ownership into an organized institutional system ensures its continuity and accumulation, preventing its repeated loss when staff change or move on. He stressed that this transformation is fundamental to developing organizational performance. Sweida noted that this concept was the core of his thesis, as he believes that "knowledge isn't power in itself; true power lies in effectively managing knowledge." He highlighted that organizations that succeed in building knowledge management systems gain a sustainable competitive advantage. He emphasized the importance of asking a crucial question in the workplace: Is the expertise within the organization preserved and managed? Or does it start from scratch every time?
