In a rapidly accelerating race to reshape the relationship between fans and the game, football applications are no longer just platforms for displaying results and statistics. Instead, they are gradually transforming into digital companions that understand fans' interests and interact with them moment by moment. In this exciting context, the German Football League (Bundesliga) has launched its new smart assistant, "Captain," a move that truly reflects the growing trend towards using artificial intelligence to create a more personalized and enriching experience for all football enthusiasts.
“Captain” is seamlessly integrated within the official Bundesliga app, offering users an interactive window that combines live data, advanced statistics, and historical information about clubs, players, and matches. Plus, you get tactical analyses and video summaries of key moments, all through an easy-to-use smart chat interface.
The Bundesliga association confirmed that this smart assistant is already available during the league's summer break. It also lets users access information and data related to the 2026 World Cup matches, as well as awesome content from previous editions of the tournament.
“Captain” empowers fans to ask questions about various clubs, players, and matches, and you'll get data-backed answers and cool video clips. For example, a user can simply ask to see all the headed goals scored by English star Harry Kane, and the system will automatically generate a customized video playlist featuring exactly the clips you asked for!
A Tailored Experience for Every Fan
But this smart assistant doesn't just answer your queries; it also analyzes your interests and how you use the app to provide personalized recommendations. These include statistics, live events, and content related to each fan's favorite clubs, with support for both German and English languages.
"Coach Mode": Blending Education with Entertainment
As part of the new updates, the app has launched a fantastic "Coach Mode" feature. This mode cleverly blends education with entertainment through daily football quizzes. These quizzes let users test their knowledge of the game's rules, tactical aspects, and football history, all supported by a fun points system, leaderboards, and rankings for participants by country.
Bastian Zuber, CEO of Products and Technology at Bundesliga Media, shared that the launch of "Captain" represents a qualitative leap in how football content is consumed. He explained that the smart assistant provides instant access to Bundesliga statistics, historical data, and video content through a unified and super seamless experience.
AI in Match Analysis
For her part, Julie Souza, Head of Global Sports at AWS, explained that fans often have to jump between multiple apps and platforms to find the information they're looking for. In contrast, "Captain" brings together various data sources and content into a single AI-powered platform. It's even capable of understanding match events in real-time and delivering an experience perfectly tailored to each user's interests.
She added that the system benefits from decades of historical football data and continues to learn and evolve through user interactions and feedback. This constant learning helps improve its capabilities and expand its services continuously.
The Bundesliga association noted that new users can download the official app to take advantage of all these new features. Existing users, however, just need to update their app to the latest version to access all the amazing services that "Captain" provides.
