Back in 1969, the renowned surgeon Denton Cooley embarked on an unprecedented experiment in Houston, USA, when he implanted the first fully artificial heart into a human body. The artificial heart technology, crafted from "Silastic" material and fibers, operated via a massive external pump. It served as a "bridge to transplant," keeping patient Haskell Karp alive until a human heart became available for transplantation. Even though Karp later passed away, the experiment confirmed the viability of cardiac prosthetic devices and sparked a crucial discussion about the limits of technological intervention in human life. It paved the way for subsequent generations of advanced artificial hearts like the "Jarvik-7." Six years later, in 1975, the American city of Albuquerque witnessed the birth of an idea that would become a technological empire. This was when Bill Gates and Paul Allen came together to found Microsoft. The company began by developing a programming language for the "Altair 8800" device, laying an industrial foundation for home and office technology. The ambitious slogan, "A computer on every desk and in every home," wasn't just a dream; it was a clear strategy that led to a historic collaboration with IBM and the development of MS-DOS, followed by the launch of the Windows operating system. Later, in 1994, media buzz grew around Kevin Mitnick, who transformed from a legal fugitive into a global icon of digital hacking. Mitnick's appearance on the cover of The New York Times revealed a shift in popular culture, where the hacker became a mysterious and intelligent figure, capable of breaching massive systems. His ultimate transformation didn't stop at the criminal aspect; it later extended to leveraging his expertise in cybersecurity. This underscored that the biggest weakness in digital systems often lies with humans, not the software itself. In the realm of digital design, April 4, 2005, saw the launch of Adobe Photoshop CS2. This represented a revolution in the digital imaging industry. Features like Vanishing Point and Smart Objects changed how designers interacted with images, moving from simple adjustments to integrated creative production. It maintained the quality of original elements and enabled experimentation without risk, thus setting new standards for digital creativity and professional workflow management.
