Digital transformation and the growing reliance on telecommunications and internet services in various aspects of daily life continue to drive strong growth in Egypt's mobile market over the past year. This surge is fueled by increased demand for data services and an expanding user base.
Recent indicators reveal that approximately 11.7 million new subscribers joined mobile phone services within a single year, pushing the total number of subscribers to 123.8 million in January 2026. This is a significant jump from about 112.1 million in the same month of the previous year, marking a growth rate of 10.54%. This shows the continued expansion of the local market, even with some segments reaching relative saturation.
In the fixed-line telephone sector, data showed about 740,000 new users joined during the same period, bringing the total number of subscribers to 13.94 million, up from 13.20 million in the comparison period. This indicates ongoing demand for home and institutional communication services, though at a slower pace than mobile.
The distribution of fixed-line subscriptions clearly shows a dominance by the household sector, which accounts for about 91% of total subscriptions. Commercial activity makes up 7%, and government entities 2%. This highlights that the service remains primarily linked to home use.
Regarding mobile internet services (voice and data), active subscriptions increased by approximately 8.23 million over the year, reaching 93.69 million in January 2026, compared to 85.46 million in January 2025. This 9.63% growth is driven by the increased reliance on digital applications, streaming, and communication services.
High-speed broadband internet services also saw the addition of over 1.1 million new subscribers, raising the total base to 12.80 million users, up from 11.67 million in the previous year. This 9.7% growth reflects the ongoing expansion of digital infrastructure and the rising demand for high-speed internet services.
Overall, these indicators suggest that Egypt's telecommunications market still enjoys clear growth momentum. This is driven by changing digital consumption patterns and the expanding reliance on data-dependent services, which strengthens the sector's role as a key engine for digital transformation in the local economy.
